About

Coach Huffer

Hello, my name is John Paul Huffer. I am a husband and father of 3. I have been a coach for the entirety of my professional career starting in 2005. I have coached football and track and field at the high school level for 17 years. Over the course of my career, I have been a part of many region and state

championships in both sports, and I have coached some of the most talented athletes in the history of the state.

In the winter of 2017, I was introduced to the Wim Hof Method. I saw a new opportunity to serve and wanted to create a new community in the state of Alaska. I am proud to say that the Wim Hof Method has changed my life and my

family’s life for the better. Through the Pillars of the Method, we have found a level of control over our nervous systems in order to mitigate stress levels and improve mindset. As a result we’re a much more connected, happy, healthy, and strong family group.

Hello, my name is John Paul Huffer. I am a husband and father of 3. I have been a coach for the entirety of my professional career starting in 2005. I have coached football and track and field at the high school level for 17 years. Over the course of my career, I have been a part of many region and state championships in both sports, and I have coached some of the most talented athletes in the history of the state.

In the winter of 2017, I was introduced to the Wim Hof Method. I saw a new opportunity to serve and wanted to create a new community in the state of Alaska. I am proud to say that the Wim Hof Method has changed my life and my family’s life for the better. Through the Pillars of the Method, we have found a level of control over our nervous systems in order to mitigate stress levels and improve mindset. As a result we’re a much more connected, happy, healthy, and strong family group.

Wim Hof Method

My Wim Hof journey started winter of 2017. My boss and good friend Sean Prince shared a book with one of my best friends John Schmitz. I went down to Schmitty’s office and I saw “the book” on his desk. As I turned to view the cover, I noticed a picture of a man wearing only shorts, pulling himself out of an ice-hole in a lake somewhere in the wilderness. The title read, ‘What Doesn’t Kill Us.’ I immediately thought to myself, “That’s badass!!”

Little did I know that moment was the catalyst for a series of events to occur that has led to me finding the path of healing/managing a lifelong debilitating condition, learning to manage stress and actually turning it into a super-power rather than a toxic lifestyle, and finding a balance of health, wellness, and performance that I never thought possible.

Now, the Method, as well as many other practices that follow the tenants of the ‘hormesis principle,’ have created an absolute perfection of homeostasis in my life and my family’s life. The lessons provided through these hormetic stress practices has quite literally changed the trajectory and our experience of overall health, wellness, and performance.

Athletics & Coaching

During the course of my track & field coaching career, I was involved with:

124 Individual Region or State Champs

7 Region Championships & 4 State Championships (boys)

63 Region or State Relay Champs

2 Region Championships & 1 State Championship (girls)

As an athlete in the year 2000, I ran a 41.25 in the 300m hurdles and won the Region Title. I still hold the 10th fastest time in Region Championship history. I ran all 4 years in high school and would have ran in college but sadly, the university I attended cut their track program the year I started. I was an All-State linebacker in football for both my Junior and Senior years of high school, and I played college football at Valley City State University where I still am in the top 10 for tackles for loss in a season. I finished my senior year with 75 tackles, 5 sacks, and 15 tackles for a loss and made All-Conference Honorable Mention.

During my senior year at VCSU, 2nd semester, I came back to Alaska and coached hurdles at Chugiak High School for the spring season. I coached at Valley City High School during my 5th year of school in North Dakota.

After returning to Alaska, I became the hurdles and jumps coach for Bartlett High School and eventually became the sprints/hurdles coach for my remaining years at Bartlett. I was also the defensive coordinator for the varsity football team for 5 years. During our 3rd season we won the State Championship and boasted one of the best defenses in the history of the state. During the state championship season we only allowed 10.2pts per game on average.
